William Simpson Obituary – At the age of 86, William “Billy” Simpson Sr. died away peacefully at his home in Athens, Tennessee on March 26, 2023. He has spent his entire life in McMinn County as a resident. He spent several years working in the concrete construction industry, particularly for TVA. Billy had a deep affection for his family and was a kind and generous person who would always try to assist people. He had a large number of pals. It was never difficult to get a good laugh out of him, and there was never a dull time while he was in the room!
He was predeceased by his wife Edna Mae McCowan Simpson, his son Tommy Simpson, his brother Jake Simpson, Jr., and his sisters Minnie Simpson and Pauline Roby. His parents, Jake and Marie Simpson, as well as his wife and son all passed away before him. ‘Billy’ Simpson is survived by his brother Jimmy ‘Jimbo’ Simpson, his sister Ella Mae Moore, and his children, son William (Lisa) Simpson Jr. of Athens, Tennessee, and daughters Tammy Simpson, Sherry(Ralph) Smith, and Sandy Espey all of Athens, Tennessee.
Lesa (Michael) Adams of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Felicia Johnson of Sweetwater, Tennessee; Carlotta Ware of Cleveland, Tennessee; Lesa’s daughter-in-law Gaynell Simpson of Cleveland, Tennessee; Rashawda Arnwine, Willie Matlock; Tabitha (David) McDermott; and Shytanna (Pete) McDermott. A large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends and family members. Both Stephanie and Ray are wonderful people to have as neighbors.
Homegoing services will be held on Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 pm at Light of Life Faith Ministries in Athens, Tennessee with pastor Rev. Dr. Harold McCowan officiating and Rev. Larry Saunders delivering the eulogy. The ceremonies will be held in memory of the deceased. At the church, beginning at 12:00 pm and continuing until 1:00 pm, the family will host a reception for friends beginning an hour before the ceremony. After the service, the burial will take place at Moore Cemetery in Niota, Tennessee.
