Born on December 15, 1941 in Many, Louisiana, Micheal Lynn Hyatt passed away on April 1, 2023, at his home in Hornbeck. He was a devout Christian who wanted others to witness his beliefs in action.
Anybody in the neighborhood knew they could count on him for reliable Christian counsel. He became a deacon after being ordained in 1969. He spent many years leading the young people of Prewitt’s Chapel Baptist Church in Sunday School. Michael’s woodworking and carpentry were works of art.
Several houses in Vernon, Sabine, and Natchitoches parishes were constructed by him. He and his wife, Joy, ran a broiler farm for nearly three decades. He spent 27 years on the job with the Vernon Parish School Board while simultaneously tending to his poultry.
For a long time, he oversaw operations at the Hornbeck High School processing factory. After retiring from the military, he worked as a bus driver at Hornbeck High School on the Vernon Parish School Board. He dedicated his life to helping others in a variety of ways.
For more than four decades, he served on the boards of the Vernon Parish Cattlemen’s Association, the Prewitt’s Chapel Cemetery Association, and Valley Electric. Michael loved to spend time outdoors, in the garden, on the water, and with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest accomplishment in life.
His parents, Mac and Aletha (Coburn) Hyatt, as well as his son, Joseph Lynn, and brother, Gerald, all passed away before him.
His family includes his wife, Joy Dowden Hyatt, of Hornbeck, Louisiana; his children, Belinda Hyatt Beverly and husband, Kevin, and Jonathan Hyatt and wife, Kristi, also of Hornbeck; his grandchildren, Corey Hyatt, Caitlin Beverly, and Maranda Gaddis; his great-grandchildren, Kallie Hyatt, McKenzie Hyatt, and Gideon Hyatt; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
