Michael Quann Obituary, Death- We regret to notify you of the passing of Michael Hugh Quann CD, Major (Ret’d), a devoted family man, friend, and coworker. Mike lost his heroic fight with cancer on April 3, 2023, peacefully with Jan and Taylar by his side. Like he did with life, Mike heroically fought to the very end when facing death and his own mortality.
Prioritizing his family, he also enjoyed the great outdoors, including hockey, hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. There was no better way to spend an evening than with Mike preparing an excessively large lunch and everyone gathered around to tell tales. As Mike has said, he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1979 as a young soldier. After 35 years of devoted service to Canada, he retired as a Major after climbing the ranks of the Signal Corps to the level of CWO.
He had two missions in Afghanistan, from January to November 2009 and August to November 2005. As Director of Operations, Maintenance, and Sustainment for the Alberta First Responders Radio Communications System, Mike left the CAF in 2014 and joined the Alberta government. Mike committed his knowledge and effort once more to creating a top-notch system for the security and safety of Albertans and Alberta First Responders.
The loves of Mike’s life, Jan and Taylar, were the center of his universe. They carried out all of their activities as a family in the vast outdoors. He was especially pleased of Jan’s achievements in life and at work as well as Taylar’s decision to pursue a profession as a nurse and put others’ needs before his own. On Thursday, April 13 at 2:00 PM, a funeral liturgy will be place at Connelly-McKinley, St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive.
Donations in Mike’s honor may be donated to: The Valour Place in lieu of flowers. Mike’s family, friends, and Jan would want to express their gratitude to all the medical professionals who helped make his journey easier. Special thanks go out to Dr. Ron Anderson, a consummate professional and gentleman who has offered the greatest medical care possible over the past 2.5 years. Connelly-Mckinley St. Albert Funeral Home is in charge of making the arrangements.
