James May Obituary, Death – On Friday, April 7, 2023, Margaret Smith May died away at the age of 83 in the comfort of her own home. In addition to being a resident of Ninety-Six, she was also married to James C. “Jimmy” May. Before she was born on July 17, 1939, in Ninety-Six, both of her parents, James C. Smith and Agnes Ouzts
Smith, had passed away prior to that day. She was their daughter. After completing her studies at Winthrop University and working as a teacher in the public school system for the majority of her professional life, Mrs. May eventually decided to take early retirement from Cambridge Academy. In the years that followed, she followed in her husband’s footsteps and began working at May Jeweler’s alongside him. Mrs. May was a very involved member
of the community that existed within First Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tripp May and Melanie May, who both reside in Ninety Six; two grandchildren, Katie Beth and husband Kadin Ivey and James May; and a sister, Betty Sinnott, who also resides in Ninety Six. Her husband is
also among those who have been left behind. Funeral services will be held at the Blyth Funeral Home on Monday morning at eleven o’clock, and they will take place in the chapel. Following the conclusion of the funeral service, the interment will take place at the Greenwood Memorial Gardens. These individuals have been chosen to carry the casket during the funeral service: Bub Bell, Tommy Dukes, James May, Kadin Ivey, Tim Marbert, and David
Marbert. At the funeral home on Monday morning, the family will receive guests beginning at 9:30 and continuing until 11:00 for a visiting service.
