Betty Nash Obituary, Death – San Marcos, Texas, Betty Nash, age 73, peacefully passed away amidst her loved ones. Betty McCaskill’s parents, Harold and Eloise, welcomed her into the world on October 31, 1949, in Crockett, Texas. She attended Centerville ISD all the way through high school in 1968 after moving from the Nineveh Community in Leon County. On August 23, 1969, Betty wed Don Nash of Leona, Texas, in the Malvern Community Church.
In May of 1972, she received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas A&M University. Betty received a faculty achievement award from the College of Education while she was a student at Texas A&M. Betty was a kindergarten teacher for 34 years, serving the communities of Crockett, Kerrville, and Hays Consolidated. Over the course of her career, Betty won many accolades. In 1996, while teaching kindergarten at Starkey Elementary in Kerrville ISD she was awarded Walmart Teacher of the Year. She received the Silver Apple award from KEYE, an Austin television station, in 2004 while teaching at Elm Grove Elementary in Hays Consolidated ISD.
In addition, she received the Hays Consolidated District Teacher of the Year award and the Elm Grove Elementary School Teacher of the Year honor in 2008. The family will greet visitors for visitation Tuesday, March 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos. Betty McCaskill Nash’s funeral will be place at the First United Methodist Church in San Marcos on Wednesday, March 29 at 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 1 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of San Marcos, with interment to follow at Tubb Cemetery in Leon County.
